Recently an immunocompromised friend in his 70s told me he's come to love his quiet life with partner, books, bird-watching, orchid-tending. This simple statement unloosed something in me. Maybe my "hermit" tendencies to stay home with partner, cats, wildlife-watching in yard, reading, writing, I can lean into more, be less exhausted.... I know this is a position of privilege, neither right nor possible for all. But for me, maybe yes.

There are a total of 1,586 book bans and restrictions across 86 school districts in the country, a new PEN America report found

Texas came in first as the state with the largest number of book bans at 713, followed by Pennsylvania with a striking 456 bans, Florida with 204, Oklahoma with 43, Kansas with 30 and Tennessee with 16, according to the report.
