A photo of a tree trunk with layers of bracket fungi on it. The photo has three vertical strips; on the left is tree bark, down the centre is the fungi, on the right is a dull blue blurred sky. The central section had large canopy of fungi with two small protuberances on its top, which looked to me like an open mouth and slightly squinting bulbous eyes, so I added some teeth, darkened the mouth interior a little, and draw eyes onto the protuberances. It looks like an old face, mid-story, possibly slightly drunk. Sort of.

Psathyrella aquatica is a species of fungus from Oregon, first described in the journal Mycologia in 2010.[1] It represents the first ever report of a gilled basidiomycete fruiting underwater.

I have mentioned before, that with my #ADHD, I'm either super distracted or completely focused.

Regarding the recent Emerg Alert, my wife said she was minutes away from calling in my disappearance when I took my camera before daylight & went for a 25 kms walk.
My phone was going dead. I was gone hours.
That's not the only time I've done that. I forget the time, and am engrossed in nature taking #fungi photos and nature shots with my camera.
One day, the alerts will be for me.

Approximately 16 mushrooms growing up from a central spot in the moss. All the mushrooms are fresh and have bright yellow stubby caps with whitish thick stems. The stems also have jagged flaky pieces covering them. There is a tree stump behind them covered with moss and lichen.

Dead Man's Fingers Mushrooms (Xylaria polymorpha) or Dead Moll’s Fingers (Xylaria longipes) ?? #fungi

Macabre-looking clusters of hard, swollen, warty ‘fingers’, 3–8cm high. When young they are pale grey with a whitish tip. The pale covering is a coating of asexual spores produced in the early stage of their development. Inside, the flesh is white and tough under the black spore-bearing outer layer.

Fruiting bodies: finger-shaped, grey or brown, blackening with age, varying from 1–3cm.

Gills/spores: the spores are dark brown when developed, banana-shaped with a black spore print.

Stipe: a small stalk which attaches the fruiting ‘finger’ to the dead wood.

This is one of my favorite mushrooms because, well, just look!

It has a few drab, unsuitable, booooring common names like “Easter Caesar’s Amanita” and “American Slender Caesar” but I always think of it as a Tequila Sunrise.

Closeup of 4 inch water and muck in a bog. Growing up out of a bog are 2 mushrooms that look like matchsticks or Q-tips. The base are dirty white sticks with a bright yellow-orange blob on the top. Each is about 2 inches high. The top of the bog has a glass or ice appearance with dark mounds where the mushrooms come up.

Each has a band of colors - closest to the attachment on the tree is a shiny maroon, then dark orange, then lighter shades of orange, then gold, then yellow and finally white. Earthstars look like a ping-pong ball sitting atop opened flower petals. In this case, the sac is a speckled white and gray, and the 6 “petals” are a cracked looking black and white. The mushroom is popping up amongst large rocks and fallen leaves.
