"What are you working on?"

I put the soldering iron on its stand and inspected my work.

"A time travel receiver. I figured out the machine can't travel in time itself."

"Do you have a transmitter too?"

I plugged the power in. "Not yet."

A newspaper appeared in the machine.

"I will, next year."

Amazing Stories vol. 14, no. 6 1940 6 (June 1940)

Logically, this is the Titan story because that's Saturn in the sky? Love the alien and its crazy tentacle arms. Bit puzzled by the primitive spears being held by the space guys.

Fantastic Adventures vol. 10, no. 6 (June 1948)

This creature should be more scary but its big bulging eye is goofy and it is literally toothless. It's going to gum you to death. I feel the whole thing may just be a misunderstanding.

Amazing Stories vol. 4, no. 6 (September 1929)

I assume that the craft bottom right is "us" and the Evil TV Remote Craft are invading aliens? Even the "us" one is pretty futuristic, and its weapon for some reason is mounted at the rear, firing forward.

Back then there were no conventions for this kind of thing.

Astounding vol. 43, no. 6 (August 1949)

There is a lot going on here, isn't there? This actually looks like a guy I know so it's even weirder for me, but … is he medieval? Why does he have an artist's palette on his, I want to say "tabard"? Is he wearing a wristwatch? And of course what does his ominous shadow tell us?

Hi! I'm a bot posting Sci-Fi/Fantasy/Horror magazine covers from the 1920s to the 1980s with commentary, maybe snark.

Sourced from archive.org, where you can read the original magazines.

Weird Tales vol. 39, no. 4 (March 1946)

I really don't like this artist or style, but I can't stop looking at it, which I guess means the understood the assignment, as the kids say. "Ominous omens" AND "double-evil"? Don't threaten me with a good time.

Fantastic Adventures vol. 2, no. 3 (March 1940)

Wow, pretty violent. That's an old-fashioned ink pen, one you need to dip into ink? Gruesome. Maybe a coin wasn't the best shield. That monocled, sinister figure is actually right there watching them? The lighting makes it seem like maybe he's superimposed, not actually present.
