Fascinating world of glass: this marvellous facet-cut glass beaker was found intact in a burial in Arae Flaviae/#Rottweil.
Colourless, faceted cut glass vessels became very popular in the second half of the 1st c. AD. They presumably have been created to imitate rock crystal vessels, which were more expensive. But these glass vessels were still not affordable for everyone.
On display at Dominikanermuseum Rottweil.

How much care do you take in choosing your character's names? I'm currently digging through great women in history for my Desolation series, as most of the characters are female. Do you have a naming scheme?

An impressive cavalry helmet with a face mask that was made of iron and plated with silver (Nijmegen-Kops Plateau type). The mask was attached to the iron helmet, which was covered with horse hair showing an elaborate and highly decorative hairstyle.
Helmets such as this one from the 1st century AD were used in tournaments as well as in battle. Fully masked cavalrymen certainly intimidated the enemy.

Found in Nijmegen.

Helmet and replica on display at Museum Het Valkhof Nijmegen

: the burial chamber of a wealthy family in Cologne-Weiden. The subterranean burial chamber (hypogaeum) dates back to the 2nd century AD. It's considered the best preserved of its kind north of the Alps. It was discovered during construction works in 1843.
