Bit of a content warning that I'm about to share some -generated slop. Just two short bits, to make a point.

I made an post on today partly as an experiment, and as before was immediately inundated with HR bots. I spent a few minutes from time to time stringing one along, out of curiosity. One way I know it's a bot is that no human recruiter would stick with me for that long a duration given the nonsense I was entering. Anyway, at one point it emitted that there was a job it was "recruiting" for, titled "Generative AI & LLM Remediation Consultant | United States (Remote/Onsite)" at a company named "Independent Consultant (Contract Role)". It's fairly clear to me that the bot was tasked with constructing fake job listings based off information people share. I can only guess what its actual purpose is.

On "AI"...

I finally had an opportunity to personally evaluate the output of an that was asked to do a technical evaluation / summary of the state of an industry. A friend asked a modern model about a particular field and asked it to summarize various aspects of it. It happened to involve supercomputing, which I have some knowledge of, and he asked me to look at the answer it gave.

It was a detailed writeup, a little over 1300 words. It had the structure of the kind of document he'd asked it to create, with appropriate sections, headers, with the information divided up sensibly, etc. It very much sounded like the type of thing you would expect a computer science to respond with if asked the same question.

But some of the specific points in the answers were obviously wrong โ€ฆ

๐Ÿค– Most people still treat AI chatbots like a private confessional, but they arenโ€™t. ๐Ÿ˜ณ Every question is logged, stored, and potentially discoverable, sometimes even after youโ€™ve deleted it. OpenAI, Google, and Anthropic all retain user prompts by default, often under the guise of โ€œmemoryโ€ or โ€œservice improvement.โ€

And hereโ€™s the kicker: a federal court order now forces OpenAI to preserve all ChatGPT conversations, including โ€œTemporaryโ€ ones users assumed were erased. So the notion of ephemeral chats is gone. That should change how people think about what they type into these systems.

The bigger issue is that the line between โ€œhelpful personalizationโ€ and โ€œpermanent surveillance recordโ€ is blurring fast. What looks convenient today could look like an exposure tomorrow.

TL;DR
โš ๏ธ AI queries are logged
๐Ÿ” Deleted chats still saved
๐Ÿง  โ€œMemoryโ€ is default setting
๐Ÿ“‚ Court orders enforce retention

Books will soon be obsolete in school

https://shkspr.mobi/blog/2025/08/books-will-soon-be-obsolete-in-school/

I recently had a chance to ask a question to one of the top AI people. At a Q&A session, I raised my hand and asked simply "What is your estimation of the future educational value of AI?"

The response was swift and utterly devastating for those laggards who want to hold back progress. The AI guy said:

Books will soon be obsolete in schools. Scholars will be instructed through AI. It is possible to teach every branch of human knowledge with AI. Our school system will be completely changed inside of ten years.

We have been working for some time on educational AI. It proves conclusively the worth of AI in chemistry, physics and other branches of study, making the scientific truths, difficult to understand from text books, plain and clear to children.

@sicurezza

Visto che i blocchi a Meta sono di fatto una pura illusione e qualsiasi cosa pubblichi rischia comunque di finire a nutrire le di , ecco due semplici regole per non farti derubare dallโ€™:

1) Pubblica solo ai follower: in questo modo il contenuto non sarร  accessibile ai bot di raccolta dati.

Oppure

2) Metti immagini-video in โ€œsilenziosoโ€ e imposta una cancellazione automatica: meno giorni restano online, meglio รจ. Puoi farlo qui ๐Ÿ‘‰ https://mastodon.uno/statuses_cleanup

I trust with government documents more than I do the government! (Or for that matter...)

is now an official document

"The US Senate has granted the Internet Archive federal depository status, making it officially part of an 1,100-library network that gives the public access to government documents, reported. The designation was made official in a letter from California Senator Alex Padilla to the Government Publishing Office that oversees the network. 'The Archive's digital-first approach makes it the perfect fit for a modern , expanding access to federal government publications amid an increasingly digital landscape,' he wrote.

"Established by Congress in 1813, the Federal Depository Library Program is designed to help the public access government records. Each congressional member can designate up to two libraries, โ€ฆ

So are we really going to let a few people train their AIs on the collected works of all humanity, let them own it, let make all the money in the world of it, let them fire everyone without taxing the shit out of it? I mean Iโ€™m for making things easier for humans, but shouldnโ€™t we all benefit? Why am I taxed for my work and an AI performing the same work isnโ€™t?

DuckDuckGo ora permette di bloccare immagini AI nei risultati di ricerca! Una nuova opzione per un'esperienza personalizzata e rispettosa della privacy.

๐Ÿข What Actually Happens When Programmers Use AI Is Hilarious, According to a New Study

๏ฝข In the study, 16 programmers were given roughly 250 coding tasks and asked to either use no AI assistance, or employ what METR characterized as "early-2025 AI tools" like Anthropic's Claude and Cursor Pro. The results were surprising, and perhaps profound: the programmers actually spent 19 percent more time when using AI than when forgoing it ๏ฝฃ
