Not sure if this is a book series for me

I am very glad that this was not a long read. I was appalled most of the time. The book was well enough written, though sometimes a bit too verbose. Unfortunately the story did not properly capture me and I am not sure if I will attempt the second book in this series. I had expected more than utter (sexual) violence against slaves and that the topic of rape was gonna be so prominent (without a content warning—at least if there was one, I must have missed it).
