A Manual for String Figures
4 stars
Kathleen Haddon was born in Ireland in 1888. Through her life she became a respected zoologist and photographer, and was also known for collecting and documenting methods for making string figures from different countries.
These methods are carefully laid out in this short manual, with clear instructions and illustrations, with some supplementary information on each figure about where it was found and what it represented in that place. I have used it to learn some new figures, and also to get some supplementary information on some that I already know. It is a wonderful gem of a book for anyone who is already enamoured with this uncommon artform.
